Swimming Pool in/near Theale (if viable)


I am investigating (again) on behalf of the Theale Steering group to assess the viability of a swimming pool in this area.

As a total start could you comment as below or indeed on any further feelings you may have about this suggestion.

I know many comments have been made but it would be good to see your positive or negative positions and also get an idea of the strength of feeling for such a project now.

I know someone else was involved so apologies if I have jumped the gun a bit and should this be so, can we work together on it ?

Hi Alan.

I am not a swimmer myself, but my girlfriend is, and she is currently struggling to find somewhere local that she can travel to on public transport.

I gather there used to be a pool in Theale. Do you know about this? Do you know why it closed? Perhaps it would be worth understanding this and assessing if a "new" pool would be at risk of the same causes of closure?

I doubt if I would use a pool but it was a hugely popular request in the village questionnaire, so I would support the idea in principle.

The big issue for me is the cost. What sort of facility is envisaged? An indoor swimming pool of any size would be a major building project.

What is the vision, and what are the finance options?

Hi,
As you see, a lot of folk are being attracted to my posting.
I am now only underlining the popularity expressed in the questionnaire and all of the valid points you raise do need addressing.

Although I am at this moment, fighting a new corner, some work has already been done and I am trying to access it. There is no point in trying to re-invent the wheel.

I will let all know more as soon as I am aware of it
