Thanks to all who viewed my input and those who replied. I now have a fuller picture.

Before the survey of the village, another poll was done and the response was exactly the same.

As I understand it, no further work has been done and we are starting with an enthusiastic response and a blank sheet.

The only pool that I know of in the area was at Theale Green School (An open air one) and that has been filled in and concreted over.

I will try to find out why

There are many areas concerning the production of a pool, including
Finance, Siteing, planning and architecture, staffing, upkeep, health and safety etc.

Looks like a mountain to climb, but it is worth pursuing, so watch this space !!!

A swimming pool was part of the leisure centre planned as part of the proposed Tilehurst Learning Campus (TLC). It was also in the "Eastern Area Vision".

The TLC was to be a redevelopment of Denefield School in Long Lane, Tilehurst - not exactly handy for Theale!

The TLC project collapsed a couple of years ago (it was always misconceivd in my view). After that, West Berks Council seem to have forgotten about the swimming pool until reminded at the last Eastern Area Vision task group. I hope we get a more positive response at the next EAVTG meeting in September!

The Eastern Area Vision task group are tasked with developing a long-term vision for the Theale/Calcot/Tilehurst/Purley/Pangbourne area.

In the meantime, the nearest pools are at Willink School in Burghfield Common (about 3 miles by car but hard to get to by public transport) and Meadway in Tilehurst (nearly impossible to get to by public transport).
